Week Six
Genius Hour Project: Basketball for a Cause
- This week we decided that we are going to answer our two most frequently asked questions and they are: Who or what has inspired us for this project and how have our readings and resources have influenced us in this journey.
- The first and most important thing that inspired us to do these basketball clinics for our project is that we both think that it is imperative to help people in other countries that cannot help themselves. That is why we planned to give all of the money that we raise to Robin's Nest Ministry (an orphanage in Jamaica). The second inspiration for our project was our love for the sport of basketball. We both feel that it would be an injustice to not use our ability to play basketball to teach other little girls who do not always get the same opportunities as boys when it comes to being taught sports.
- In order to be qualified to host a basketball camp here at FRA, we have had to do a lot of research on how to be qualified in the health and business fields. We have learned that in order to get this kind of project done it takes a lot of back and forth with our mentors. This has taught us both a lot of patience and appreciation for what people do everyday for their jobs. This has made us much more determined to put on the best camps that we possibly can.
How are you guys planning to spread the word about your camp? Will only FRA students be able to attend this event?
ReplyDelete(Paige) I can tell you are both working very hard for this project! Will kids from other schools be able to join?
ReplyDeleteWakefield-How many people do you have signed up for this camp? When and where is it going to be?
ReplyDeleteMillie, that is so awesome you are sponsoring a child in Jamaica! How long will the camp be?

ReplyDeleteIt's so cool and meaningful that you can combine helping an orphanage with your habit so well. What are the limits for signing up for this camp and how many people are able to sign up?
