Week Two

Week 2 Update: Basketball for a Cause Genius Hour

  • In our second week of blogging, we have realized a lot of things that we need to improve on based on your comments! We learned that we definitely need to be more specific about our ministry that we are partnering with (Robin's Nest Ministry) so our audience can know what our purpose of this basketball camp is. That purpose is to help girls learn a sport at an early age because they are typically not taught sports at a young age like boys are. The major aspect of our purpose is to give the orphans in Jamaica a better life through the money we raise doing this basketball camp. We would like to raise at least $750 to donate to Robin's Nest Ministry.
  • After the first round of comments on our blog post, we learned that we have so much to give in this project.  We are going to have to devote a lot of our free time to this project in order to make it the best basketball camp that two teenage girls have ever produced! Our next step is going to be to set up a meeting with Rick West(The Dean of the Lower School) to get approval on the project. This is so we can start spreading the word about the camp as soon as possible!
  •  Moving forward from here, we need to be more specific about all of the procedures we are taking to create the final product of an amazing girls' basketball camp. We are looking forward on taking you along on this long, yet exciting journey!

Week One

What are our Goals for this Project and How will we Measure our Progress?

  • Our first goal for our basketball clinic is to provide money for orphans for little boys and girls that are in Jamaica.
  • Our second goal for this project is to teach the little girls the value of helping others as well as to help them to develop the skills of a basketball. Our purpose of providing a clinic for the little girls is to teach these girls a sport because at a young age unlike boys, girls are not taught sports as frequently.
  • Our final goal for this project is to help others that cannot help themselves. We feel like we can use our background in basketball to give the unfortunate children in Jamaica a hope and a future as well as to give the little girls a chance that we did not have when we were their age.

  •   We are going to measure our progress by keeping up to date on our blog posts, staying on task in class when we are given the full period to work on our project, as well as following our template for this project is going to be a major key to viewing our progress. If we follow all of these steps exactly we should be able to keep up with our progress based on how far ahead or behind or right on track we are by checking off things on our "To Do" list as well. So that is how we plan on monitoring our progress throughout this entire genius hour project!
